Korea's SPP Shipbuilding has won an order for two 76,500-dwt panamax bulkers from UK-basked shipowner Euroceanica.
Reports suggested the order was a replacement contract for two cancelled aframax crude tankers.
However, a spokesman for Italian-backed Euroceanica said that they were “two totally different deals”. He confirmed that the aframaxes had been cancelled.
The two cancelled 113,000-dwt aframax tankers were to be delivered this year, according to data from Clarksons.
The spokesman declined to give a price for the panamax newbuildings. However, as a price comparison six 76,000-dwt panamax newbuildings were contracted in December 2010, by German owner Harren & Partner from China’s Taizhou Catic Shipbuilding for $32.5m each for delivery in 2012-2013, according to Clarksons.
