Doosan pens 1st drillship engine

Doosan Engine of South Korea has successfully entered in drillship engine market and set a foundation for further operation of offshore plant engine.

In 2011, Doosan has inked orders of 24 drillship engines, to be mounted in four drillships from Samsung Heavy Industries for the first time.

Six of medium-speed engines will be equipped in one drillship as a package and this package is known to be worth around KRW 9bn-KRW 10bn ($8.3m-$9.2m).

Samsung, which has booked a total of ten drillships this year, has been supplied by Wartsila and STX Engine. However, Samsung is said to place orders to Doosan after thorough examination on quality, pricing, delivery, etc,

Doosan plans to reinforce offshore engine business, by winning additional orders of engines for drillships and FPSO.

With its goal to reach annual average of over 162 offshore plant engines by 2019, Doosan targets KRW 1.8trn of order this year and it has already won KRW 570bn in H1.
