BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA - The 6th World Ocean Forum 2012, co-hosted by Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, Busan Metropolitan City and Korea Association of Marine Industry, will be held from June 4(Mon) to June 6(Wed) at Convention Center, BEXCO. This is the first time for the forum to be held in early summer since it changed its annual schedule in late autumn.
Organizing Committee of the World Ocean Forum released the official program along with its poster on March 28.
Under the theme of 'Blue Frontiership & Ocean Governance', the 6th World Ocean Forum 2012 aims to examine the 21st Century's new paradigm, blue economy's innovative prospects and to discuss durable cooperative measures for global marine governance to coordinate interactive cooperation.
Three Co-Chairpersons will be representing the 6th World Ocean Forum 2012 to help deliver these goals; Korea's most renowned marine strategist, Vice Chairman Seoung-Yong Hong from Presidential Advisory Council on Education, Science & Technology, Director Tony Haymet from Scripps Institute of Oceanography, one of the oldest and largest centers for ocean and earth science research in the West Coast of the U.S., and President Sang-Rai Cho from the Society of Naval Architects of Korea (Professor at University of Ulsan), celebrating its 60th founding anniversary this year.
International marine experts have also been invited as speakers for both opening plenary discussion and keynote speech. POGO(Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans)'s Chairman, Director Peter Herzig from the GEOMAR, world-famous environmentalist and an educator, President Jean-Michel Cousteau from Ocean Futures Society and Judge Jin-Hyun Paik from the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies) will be delivering a keynote speech.
With a total of 5 regular sessions and 3 special sessions, you can have a chance to analyze and predict future trends in maritime business related to integrated governance, offshore plant industries, logistics, seafood, and marine environment.
There will be various special events including marine bio-industry exhibition, 'Marine Bio-Tech 2012', Korea-China Marine Economist Roundtable, 1st Asia Marine Journalist Forum, and a special marine leisure session conducted in a TED style.
