Korea targets BWTS leader

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) in Korea sends a total of 28 experts in ballast water treatment system, green gas and offshore pollution to the 64th session of IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee, which is to be held during October 1-5.

Ballast Water Convention was adopted by IMO in February 2004 and Korea has been preparing for the convention taking into effect, by enacting Ballast Water Treatment Act in 2007, etc.

Also, in order to promote ballast water treatment industry and lead the world market, Korea established tentative standard for type approval of the system in 2006, etc.

As a result, Korea secures nine products approved by IMO, of 25 ballast water treatment technologies in total.

MLTM aims to introduce Korea's current development situation, capacity and technology for ballast water treatment system to IMO member countries and lead a massive market, during the coming committee.

Also, it plans to work hard for prompt effectivation of the convention.
