Korean ship export plunges

Export from Korea's South Gyeongsang province turns out to have been damaged by stagnant shipbuilding industry.

Total amount of export from South Gyeongsang province for July of this year declined by 31.1% year-on-year to $4.3bn, according to a report about recent market trend in South Gyeongsang province by the Bank of Korea on October 2.

Underperformance of shipbuilding-related industries, which take largest part in the export of the province, has a great impact on poor export.

During the same month, ship export from South Gyeongsang plummeted by 56.5%, comparing with the same month of 2011.

Meanwhile, counting out ship sector, South Gyeongsang's export increased by 3.8% year-on-year.
