[Marine] Scorpio ends eco debates

Scorpio ends eco debates

Scorpio Tankers has ended debates around efficiency of eco design newbuildings, claiming that eco design is around 30% more efficient than its previous vessel.

New York-listed Scorpio revealed that its 52,000-dwt STI Amber (built 2012) burned 9 metric tons less per day than the STI Coral (now Hellas Explorer; built 2008) when travelling laden at 13.5 knots.

The 20.5 tons per day consumed by the STI Amber, delivered from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of Korea earlier this year, is 30.5% less than the STI Coral at the same speed.

The figures show evidence of the material savings and environmental benefits of its eco-design newbuildings, said CEO Emanuele Lauro.
