Wang Jinlian, general secretary of the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry, said there is no need to greatly expand the offshore facility construction facilities in China.
During the 'Shiptec China 2012' held last week, he said, "Some shipyard facilities currently being used for shipbuilding can be used for offshore as well, and some can also be used if they got upgraded."
"Blindly constructing new facilities is not necessary,” Wang said.
He also pointed out that entering offshore engineering sector could result in more capital risks.
