[Ship Building] 1st Shuttle TK built on-land

1st Shuttle TK built on-land

Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has succeeded in building a Shuttle Tanker on land, not in a dry dock, for the first time in the world.

On Sunday, November 4th, the Korean shipbuilding firm of middle standing made a Load-Out, moving the 157,000-DWT Shuttle Tanker, built on-land, into a floating dock.

The newbuilding, 278.5 meters in length and 48m in width, had been ordered by Greece's Tsakos.

Earlier, Sungdong recorded world's shortest-time Load-Out on a newbuilding built on-land in May 2006. Since then it has accumulated on-land building know-how and technology, having constructed around 160 newbuildings so far, including bulkers, tankers, boxships and offshore structures, etc.

The yard is to launch the high value-added Shuttle TK newbuilding with a Dynamic Positioning System and a Bow Loading System this afternoon.
