China's Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) has recently booked an order for three 308,000-dwt very large crude oil carriers, with additional options for two, from Dalian Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO Dalian).
As GSI revealed its plan to cast CSSC Guangzhou Longxue Shipbuilding for construction of VLCCs, more market players believe that GSI will soon takeover Longxue shipyard.
GSI explained that building these newbuildings at Longxue will save production cost and will be a big help to complete the project, which gives advantages in its plans to expand tanker business.
Meanwhile, the CSSC-affiliated shipyard has delivered 12 newbuildings, launched 14 vessels and commenced construction of 10 vessels, during the first nine months of 2012.
Also, it won three orders in the third quarter and as of September 30, it stood at 38 orders of a combined 1.51m dwt on the book.
