Japanese shipbuilders contracted a total of 17 newbuildings of a combined 0.9m-gt export ships during October, announced the Japan Ship Exporter’s Association (JSEA) on November 15.
Japanese shipyards won two car carriers, 15 bulkers - one handysize, three handymaxes, five panamaxes, one post-panamax, two capesizes, one VLOC, one chip carrier - and one small-size tanker.
During the first ten months of 2012, Japanese shipyards won a total of 134 export ships of a cumulative 6.56m gt, down by 6% year-on-year.
Export-ship orderbook stood at 606 vessels of a combined 27.93m gt or 12.45m cgt, as of the end of October, down by 0.32m gt against the previous month.
Meanwhile, overall newbuildings which went through customs last month are 27 vessels of a cumulative 0.98m gt, almost same as those seen a year ago.
