[Uses]
- A screw clamp for hanging hooks of lever blocks when building vessels and constructing (attaching) plants.

[Features]
- When hanging the hook of a lever block or a chain block directly on a work piece, the load is concentrated at the end of the hook, leading to safety accidents caused by the widening or break off the hook. This model is used to prevent such accidents.
- With NPC-T, it is possible to do two kinds of operation at the same time when lever blocks are used: up and down straight operation between the upper eye hook and the lower screw; operation from the side either right or left using the eye hole at the rear of the jaw opening.
- NPC-T holds a work piece tight as the space between the jaw and the work piece becomes smaller in proportion to the load on the spherical teeth of the jig bearing which works as gearing on the opposite side.
- An efficient clamp that can do pulling and horizontal lifting by simply operating the screw.

[How to use]
- Insert a work piece into the end of the clamp's jaw opening and then tightly fasten the screw.

[Warnings]
- Always observe the rated capacity specified on the clamp.
- Only use work pieces that fall within the range of the jaw opening specified in the instruction manual.
- If the load is placed on the side of the eye hook, not on a straight line with the eye hook, always make sure that the load placed on the side should be half of the rated capacity specified on the clamp.- Never vertically lift a work piece with this model.

Norwegian inks PSV pair

Siem Offshore has signed a contract with Hellesoy yard in Norway.

The contract is for the construction of one dual fuel Platform Supply Vessel, with an option for one additional vessel.

The firm vessel shall commence a four years contract, with four one-year options, with TOTAL E&P NORGE AS as reported on 30 August 2012. The firm contract shall commence within third quarter 2014.

The vessels will be of VS 4411 DF design with an overall length of 89 meters and a beam of 19 meters and with maximum 5,500 dwt.

The ship is designed in collaboration with Wärtsilä Ship Design, and will have a dual fuel system for the use of either LNG or Marine Diesel Oil.

The vessel will be equipped with the most modern solutions for fire-fighting and emergency preparedness, a deck of approx. 970m2 and under deck capacities well suited for the intended operations.

[Marine] JES scores 2nd PSV

JES scores 2nd PSV

The Board of Directors of JES International Holdings Limited (the “Company” together with its subsidiaries, the “Group”) announced that the Group has won further shipbuilding contract for the construction of one UT 755 LN Platform Support Vessel (“PSV”) through its wholly owned subsidiaries, JES Universal Co., Private Limited and Jiangsu Eastern Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.

The delivery of the vessel is expected to take place at the end of year 2014.

The order came from the same Norwegian customer as the Company announced the PSV order won on 8 October 2012.

The Group also entered into contracts, which shall only become effective in the coming months, for further two similar PSVs.

The Company shall make further announcement when these contracts become effective.

[Marine] VLCC→FPSO conversion rises

VLCC→FPSO conversion rises

Recently, the 1995-built, 298,306-DWT very large crude carrier Titan Venus was sold by Knightsbridge Tankers for $24.5m for conversion into a floating production, storage and offloading facility.

Also the 1999-built, 298,969-DWT Algarve was sold by Euronav this week for $35.9m for FPSO conversion.

Industry players believe such deals are to increase, considering the weak earnings in the VLCC arena.

According to Lloyd’s List Intelligence, of the global VLCC fleet of 607, 110 ships were built in the 1990s.

STX wins Dynagas LNG-RV?

George Prokopiou-led DYNAGAS has confirmed that it is in talks with STX Offshore & Shipbuilding to order one 170,000-cbm LNG regasification vessel.

If this would be sealed, it would be the first for the Korean shipyard to be awarded an order from DYNAGAS.

Mr. Prokopiou confirmed the project and said "We think everything will fall into place." The order is expected to be completed shortly.

The newbuilding is slated for delivery in the first half of 2015 and its price is said to have been agreed with the yard at around $300m.

Maritime training specialist Seagull has plugged a growing gap in shipboard expertise by launching new CBT titles targeted at High Voltage electrical systems operation and maintenance.

The wider adoption of electrical propulsion, variable speed drives and cold ironing have combined to make shipboard higher voltage systems (above 1,000V) increasingly commonplace in the maritime industry.

Two new Seagull courses, CD#0232 and CD#0233, address revisions to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW 2010) on electrical system management which are now force. They cover theoretical knowledge of HV systems, practical skills and safety awareness.

“Marine engineers have received electrical systems training but, because they do not use that knowledge day in day out, it can easily be lost or become out of date,” said Roger Ringstad, Seagull Managing Director.

“Many engineers will soon be sailing with HV systems for the first time so even routine knowledge on the way HV systems should be started and shut down may be lacking.”

The revised STCW requires seafarers working with, or around, HV systems are trained. While this only fully comes into force on the January 1, 2017, it has applied to the revalidation of Engineering Certificates of Competency (CoC) since 1 January 2012.

Damen Floating Booster Station

Damen delivered a floating booster station to a Chinese contractor working on a Middle Eastern job. The design of the containerized booster and the pontoons is based on maximizing the versatility of the complete unit, yet keeping transport practical and affordable.

The booster station, type BS750, is a fully containerized diesel driven unit. It houses a Damen dredge pump, type BP7570MD, and its 1.825 kW Caterpillar drive. The dredge pump has replaceable Ni-hard 4 wear parts, and is fitted out with a mechanical shaft seal, not requiring grease nor gland water. The booster works on a Ø 750 mm suction and discharge pipe line.

The 40’ container is fitted out with large doors and hatches facilitating service and maintenance. Its most remarkable features are the remote control system, as well as the possibility to use either air cooling or water cooling – making the booster a versatile tool.

The booster is placed on modular pontoons. These multi-functional pontoons can be used as floating units when coupled, or can be used individually as for instance fuel tanks. As the pontoons are provided with an official Container Certificate, they can be shipped anywhere by any means of transport, severely cutting shipping costs and transit times.

The pontoons have been built under LRS Class and have the international notation for Work at Sea. The pontoons have here been designed in a fully self supporting configuration, with fuel storage, drink water and black water storage facilities. The pontoon is moored using 4 anchors. On the pontoons day and night accommodation containers, work and navigation lights are placed, and safety provisions have been made.

The complete floating booster unit will be delivered to China Harbour Arabia Engineering Company, a subsidiary of the important Chinese contractor CCCC Guangzhou Dredging. The unit is shipped to Damman, Saoedi Arabia, where it will join a CHAEC cutter suction dredger working on a port expansion project. The booster adds a major discharge distance to the current dredger, and it will be remote controlled by the dredge master. Hence the dredge master has a continuous and full control of the entire dredging process, enabling him to maximize efficiency.

The floating booster unit will arrive at Damman port early November, where Damen field service engineers will assist at its the commissioning and start up. The local crew including the dredge operators will be trained in the use as well as the maintenance of the booster. As the delivery includes wear parts, spare parts, consumables and tools, the booster will have an excellent start. During the project, the crew will be supported by the local Damen Service representative.

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has broadened its capability in ship design with the establishment of a new team dedicated to the development of naval ship designs.

Rolls-Royce has been at the forefront of innovative ship design for nearly 40 years, designing over 800 vessels, used mainly in the commercial sector.

This new team will develop vessels for customers such as navies, coast guards and other maritime agencies. The new designs, which include variants of the award winning Environship merchant ship concept, will leverage innovative and cost effective technologies from commercial Rolls-Royce ship designs and products, adapted and integrated for the specific requirements of naval operations.

Garry Mills, Rolls-Royce, Chief of Naval Ship Design, said: "There has been a growing trend for commercial marine technology to cross over into the naval market, delivering cost reduction and proven capability. Governmental customers are looking for cost effective and innovative ships and with Rolls-Royce already hugely experienced in ship design, coupled to the world’s largest marine product portfolio, we can offer integrated ‘whole ship’ solutions suited to the demanding roles of the world’s navies.

"Naval vessels typically involve the integration of many disparate and complex technologies, into what tend to be unique ships. We have some exciting designs under development, bringing together world leading capability in propulsion, control systems and deck machinery into advanced hull forms."

One of the Rolls-Royce designs includes a replenishment ship for refueling and supplying naval fleets and is available in the 9,000 to 25,000 deadweight tonne range. The design is based on the Rolls-Royce Environship concept, featuring a wave piercing bow and hybrid electric propulsion system which increases operation efficiency while reducing fuel consumption.

The design team will focus on offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), survey ships and support vessels, rather than combatant ships such as frigates and destroyers.

Cargotec supply equip to STX

In October, Cargotec received a large order to deliver MacGregor RoRo cargo access equipment for four 45,000 dwt container/RoRo vessels for Italian container shipping specialist, Ignazio Messina & C. S.p.A.

The ships will be built at the STX Jinhae shipyard in Korea and the MacGregor RoRo equipment will be delivered between the last quarter of 2013 and the second quarter of 2014.

Each MacGregor shipset includes a quarter ramp, stern door, ramp covers and doors, division doors and a power pack.

"RoRo equipment is an integral part of a vessel's cargo-handling capability," says Magnus Sjöberg, Sales Director for RoRo ships.

"Involving Cargotec at an early stage enables us to use our experience to design the most efficient, safe cargo handling solution in order to maximise the ship's overall efficiency and profitability."
